From a humble Vaidya’s dispensary born out of Jain compassion in 1917,
to one of Maharashtra’s most trusted Ayurvedic Rasashalas this is the story
of a family, a philosophy, and a century of unwavering service.
— The Founding Principle, Seth Sakharam Nemchand Jain Aushadhalaya Trust · 1917
Seth Sakharam Nemchand Rasashala was not founded as a business. It was founded as an act of devotion — a Jain ideal made real. The founders believed that medicine should never be out of reach for those who need it, and that the highest service a human being can perform is to alleviate another’s suffering.
This single conviction has shaped every decision this Rasashala has made across more than a hundred years — from the herbs it chooses to the hands that prepare them.
The story of Seth Sakharam Nemchand Rasashala is a story of perseverance, purity,
and purpose — written across generations of devoted healers.
The Seth Sakharam Nemchand Jain Aushadhalaya Trust was established in Solapur with a singular, noble mission — Aushadhdan, the donation of medicine, considered one of the highest forms of charitable service in Jain philosophy. The founders — devout Jain businessmen and community leaders — believed that access to pure medicine was a fundamental right, not a privilege. From the very first day, the Trust ran an OPD (Outpatient Department) where patients could receive Ayurvedic consultation and medicines at no cost.
Alongside the OPD, a dedicated Rasashala — an Ayurvedic medicine preparation unit — was formally established. Trained Vaidyas began preparing classical formulations on-site: Churnas, Avalehas, Bhasmas, and Rasaushdhis, following the exact texts of Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam, and Rasatarangini. Every medicine was prepared by hand, using herbs sourced from trusted farmers and forest communities. Quality was never compromised, even in these early years.
The reputation of the Rasashala's medicines — prepared with rare purity and classical precision — spread rapidly across Solapur district and into neighbouring regions. Families began travelling from distant talukas to obtain medicines. The Trust expanded its operations, adding dedicated preparation rooms for Rasa Shastra medicines including Bhasmas (mineral-based Ayurvedic preparations) — complex, multi-step processes that required deep expertise and strict adherence to classical methods. The Trust also began distributing medicines at subsidised rates to the economically weaker sections of the community.
Marking more than a century of uninterrupted service, Seth Sakharam Nemchand Rasashala launched its e-commerce platform — bringing classical Ayurvedic formulations directly to patients and practitioners across India and globally. Today, with 500+ products across 13 categories, the Rasashala continues to honour the founding vision of Aushadhdan: that pure, authentic, affordable Ayurvedic medicine must be accessible to everyone who seeks healing.
